brightonSEO is a huge search marketing conference that attracts the best speakers and audience from the UK and beyond. It is a hub for learning and networking, and takes place in (you guessed it) Brighton.
At Zelst, we attend brightonSEO whenever we have the opportunity. It is such a valuable experience for our team to hear the latest takes on search marketing, directly from specialists all over the world. Whether it’s technical SEO, local search, content marketing or PPC, there’s always something for everyone in our team.
The digital marketing landscape is fast- and ever-changing, and so it’s essential that we invest in training and development to stay at the forefront of our industry – and to ensure our clients stay at the forefront of theirs.
The conference takes place twice a year – usually in April, and then again in September – and spans two days. We can confirm it’s worth the six-hour drive from Harrogate!

Our brightonSEO Takeaways
After the buzz of two days in Brighton and recovering from the travel, the team get together in the office to share our top brightonSEO takeaways. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to attend all the talks that spark your interest, so this is a great way for us divide, conquer and share the knowledge. We use our brightonSEO takeaways to further our own learning, experiment with new concepts, and build on existing SEO strategies for our clients.
For example, last year our Head of Technical, Phoebe, attended SEO and AI sessions, including Simon Lesser’s ‘SEO is dead (again)’ talk.

She also attended talks on diversity in SEO and made sure to visit the Women in Tech SEO stand with her team. According to Moz, men outnumber women 2 to 1 in SEO, so it was great to connect with like-minded technical SEO specialists.
With brightonSEO, it’s not all about the search marketing theory and application. There are so many interesting talks on fostering a team, improving diversity, communicating with clients, strengthening your internal processes and more.
In 2021, our Managing Director, Peter, met John Mueller from Google and discussed Google Search Console and its strange mobile usability issue reports that were appearing at the time. John’s take was that, if you sense that Google’s bot may have encountered a momentary issue with the page when crawling, it’s worth running an additional Mobile-Friendly Test to confirm your page is in fact optimized for mobile.

Where is brightonSEO held?
One of the best parts is that The Brighton Centre, where brightonSEO is held, is situated right on the beach-front, so you can enjoy the fresh sea air in between talks.
There’s also some unbelievable restaurants and cafes in Brighton for you to explore, but remember to book ahead if there’s a large group of you.
Some of our favourite spots from our past trips include Shelter Hall, which is right on the beach and a stone’s throw away from the conference centre, Lost in the Lanes for coffee and breakfast, and Purezza for great-tasting vegan pizzas.
